August 29, (THEWILL) – Leicester City booked their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup last night but were made to work hard for the 2-0 victory against League Two side Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park, thanks in large part to Wilfred Ndidi.
The Foxes enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening stages, with efforts from Harry Winks and Cesare Casadei going close. However, Tranmere defended resolutely and even came close to taking the lead themselves when Dan Pike’s long-range strike was well saved.
The breakthrough finally came 10 minutes into the second half when Nigerian midfielder Ndidi’s shot from the edge of the box found the bottom corner of the post. Jamie Vardy then doubled Leicester’s advantage just four minutes later, forcing the ball home at close range after Ndidi’s cross.
That goal secured the win for Enzo Maresca’s side, who have now won five matches in a row across all competitions this season. The Foxes can look forward to the third-round draw after overcoming their lower-league opponents.
It continues an impressive start to the campaign for Leicester, who have also won their opening four Championship matches.
