May 13, (THEWILL) – The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Sokoto State Chapter, has expressed dissatisfaction over the gruesome murder of Miss Deborah Yakubu by angry mobs, at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, (SSCOE) on Thursday.
CAN in a statement jointly signed by the Sokoto State chapter chairman and Secretary, Rev Father Nuhu Iliya and Pastor Godwin Adole, affirmed that the action of the mobs was purely criminal and should be treated as such.
While stressing that the gruesome murder of Miss Deborah, who is in her early 20s is condemned by any rational imagination, CAN urged security agencies to ensure justice is served at the end of the day.
The statement read, “Thursday, 12th May, 2022, was a sad day to the entire Christian Community in Sokoto, following the gruesome murder of one of our members, Miss Deborah Emmanuel, at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.
“We received the news with great shock, considering the manner in which her life was brought to an end.
“The Christian community in Sokoto state condemns in strongest terms, this shameful, barbaric, evil and criminal act.
“We call on His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Tambuwal and other security agencies, to fully investigate this matter, with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book, as this will serve as a deterrence to those who would contemplate such in the future.
“Meanwhile, we call on Christians all over the state to remain calm, while we await justice served appropriately and soon. We also acknowledge the concerns of many people and groups that roundly condemned the act as soon as it happened.
“Finally, we want to use this medium to express our deepest condolences to the immediate deceased, the Christian community in Sokoto state and all those mourning her departure. May God grant her eternal rest in His kingdom, Amen.”
