February 13, (THEWILL) – South African debutants, Marumo Gallants, made a dream start to their TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup campaign, picking up a 4-1 victory against Al Akhdar of Libya.
Ranga Chivaviro scored twice, Nku Lesiba and Joseph Malongoane added one a piece, as Gallants dominated the match from start to finish.
Lesiba opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a powerful shot from inside the box, and Chivaviro doubled the lead in the 21st minute with a simple tap-in. The Gallants continued their dominance in the second half, with Chivaviro scoring his second with a low shot from outside the area.
Despite Akram Alzawi scoring a consolation goal for the Libyan side, Gallants sealed the victory with five minutes left on the clock, when Sibusiso Sibeko broke off on the left and set up Malongoane for the final goal. The victory puts Gallants at the top of Group A in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
