February 13, (THEWILL) – Congo Brazzaville’s Diables Noirs made a statement in their opening group stage match of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup against Nigeria’s Rivers United.

The home side was dominant from the start, scoring three goals in the first half to secure a 3-0 victory.

Carl Wunda broke the deadlock for the Diables Noirs on the half hour mark with a close-range tap in, followed by Jaures Maudsly Ngombe’s low shot that doubled the lead just two minutes later.

The convincing victory was sealed by 19-year-old forward Domi Jaures Massoumou with eight minutes left in the first half. Rivers United tried to make a comeback in the second half, with Ukeme Williams earning a penalty after being brought down inside the box.

However, Gideon Duru’s effort was comfortably saved by Dhody Foutou, and despite their efforts, the Nigerians were unable to find the back of the net. The win puts Diables Noirs at the top of Group B.
