Burnley Sink Deeper Into Turmoil As Palace Prevail At Turf Moor

November 04, (THEWILL) – Burnley’s disastrous start to the English Premier League season continued this Saturday as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Crystal Palace. The loss marked a record eighth consecutive top-flight loss at Turf Moor for the Clarets, who remain rooted at the joint bottom of the table with just one win.

Palace opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through Jeffrey Schlupp before Tyrick Mitchell sealed the victory deep into stoppage time. It condemned Burnley to a club-record sixth straight home loss from the start of an EPL season, further plunging manager Vincent Kompany into turmoil.

Despite dominating possession and having 16 shots to Palace’s 4, Burnley once again lacked cutting edge in the final third. The visitors defended stoutly after taking the lead and capitalised on their few chances. Burnley, meanwhile, spurned several opportunities to equalise as their attacking woes continued.

The loss compounds Burnley’s miserable home form stretching back to last season’s campaign when they lost their final two games at Turf Moor. A fortress during last season’s promotion charge from the Championship, Turf Moor has since become anything but for Kompany’s men in the EPL.

The Clarets face a daunting task to avoid relegation. With only one win from 11 games so far, Kompany needs to urgently inspire a reversal in fortunes. Otherwise, a return to the second tier appears inevitable on the current form for the struggling Clarets.
