January 11, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United’s Dan Burn and Joelinton scored in a 2-0 win over Leicester City on Tuesday, to advance the Magpies to the EFL Cup semi-finals for just the second time in their club history.
After being shocked by Sheffield Wednesday in their FA Cup loss on Saturday, Eddie Howe’s team rebounded with a dominant performance to go to the EFL Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1976.
In a lopsided game at St. James’ Park, Leicester goalkeeper, Danny Ward, stopped Newcastle for the majority of the time before Burn and Joelinton scored twice in the space of 12 second-half minutes.
Amid a fantastic season, Newcastle will wait for Wednesday’s semi-final draw as they pursue long-awaited hardware and continue their unlikely pursuit of a top-four English Premier League finish.
While Leicester travels to rival Nottingham Forest on Saturday, in the resumption of hostilities in the EPL, Newcastle will be next in action on Sunday, at home against Fulham.
