SAN FRANCISCO, January 25, (THEWILL) – Acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus yesterday declared that some of those presently serving in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet are among the 55 Nigerians recently identified by the Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, to have stolen N1.34trn in eight years.
Mohammed who disclosed this last week while launching a campaign against corruption however failed to give the names of the past governors, former government officials and businessmen he alleged to have stolen the over N1trn public fund in eight years.
Secondus, while accusing the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration of turning a blind eye to the misdeeds of its supporters, spoke in condemnation of the handcuffing of PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, during his recent court appearances.
Speaking with newsmen, he reiterated that PDP was not against Buhari’s anti-graft war, but warned that it must not be selective and that the government must adhere strictly to Rule of Law.
While insisting that those involved in the alleged theft must be brought to book, even if they are in the present government, he said: “This involves both APC and PDP. Those involved are still in the government of Muhammadu Buhari, serving as ministers, some holding ranking positions even in security agencies.
“He should bring them to book; we are not against his fight against corruption, but it should be holistic and there must be Rule of Law.
“Look at the handcuffs on PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh. It is wicked and vindictive. Nigerians should see what is happening in a democracy because Metuh is the spokesperson of opposition party. Now, no one can speak freely.
“We are operating under threat and a Police state; our families now live under threat and they are being asked questions at the airport,” the PDP chair stated.
