BEVERLY HILLS, March 01, (THEWILL) – In the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA) on Sunday, Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield entered the record books by becoming the fastest player to reach 1,000 3-pointers. With his record, he scaled over Steph Curry’s previous mark of 369 games, which stood as the record.

Hield obtained seven triples in his 350th game to break that record midway through the third quarter of their 127-126 loss to the Charlotte Hornets, De’Aaron Fox found Hield for the record-breaking score. In general, the new record-holder knocked down eight triples, earning for himself a season-high record of 30 points, seven assists and two rebounds.

Klay Thompson (372)
Damian Lillard (385)

Curry needed 369 games to reach that mark whille Curry’s Warriors teammate, Klay Thompson, hit his 1,000th 3-pointer in his 372nd game and Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard needed 385 games.

Delightfully thrilled to be a record-breaker, Hield spoke to reporters post-match: “It’s humbling to be one of the guys that are first to a thousand. Me, being in college, watching guys like Steph and Ray Allen — the greats.

“It’s a humbling experience, but if I would have shot the ball better earlier in the season, I probably would have been up there for sure, quicker. I’m grateful, I’m thankful. For a kid from the Bahamas to be able to get that milestone, it’s a humbling experience.

“And I hope I keep inspiring in the Caribbean and around the world, especially international kids.”

Unfortunately, Hield twisted his ankle late in the game in a way that made the injury looked worse than it was as he managed to return to the game after spending a possession on the bench to recover.

Although the Bahamian has not had the greatest season, on Sunday night, he looked like the player the Kings saw the last two years and were attracted to his abilities.

Unfortunately for the Kings, they couldn’t reward Hield with the victory Sunday night, as the Hornets stormed home on a 15-5 run to spoil the party at the end.
