August 31, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion have made a surprise move to sign Barcelona’s talented young forward, Ansu Fati, on loan.
The Seagulls were keen to bolster their attacking options after missing out on Mohammed Kudus last week. However, few expected them to set their sights on Barcelona’s 20-year-old Fati, who has already amassed over 100 appearances for the Catalan giants.
It is understood that Fati has become open to a temporary move away from Barcelona this summer, with the emergence of 16-year-old Lamine Yamal having pushed him down the pecking order at the Nou Camp.
Whilst Tottenham, West Ham, Newcastle and Aston Villa had registered interest in the past, Brighton have now joined the race. Manager Roberto De Zerbi is thought to be driving the club’s pursuit of the Spanish starlet.
Talks have begun between Brighton, Barcelona and Fati’s representatives over a season-long loan deal. Those close to the negotiations have suggested the South Coast club are increasingly ‘confident’ an agreement can be finalised to bring the young forward to the Amex Stadium.
