Brentford Lose By Another One-Goal Margin In 2-1 Leicester Defeat

October 24, (THEWILL) – Leicester beat Brentford 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday, punishing them for squandering their chances in the way Chelsea did in last week’s 1-0 loss. The Bees were superior in nearly every way, but the Foxes held on to take all three points.

Christian Norgaard came close to scoring a last-minute overhead kick against Chelsea last week, and he came close again in the second minute, but Kasper Schmeichel was up to the task.

Ivan Toney had a goal disallowed for being offside from Rico Henry’s low cross to the back post for the fourth time this season. As the Bees maintained their early dominance, the towering striker turned provider for Bryan Mbeumo, but his shot just missed Schmeichel’s goal.

Against the run of play, Youri Tielemans put Leicester ahead. Henry easily cleared James Maddison’s free-kick into the box, but the ball fell to the Belgium international on the edge of the area, where he rifled one into the top corner.

Schmeichel came to Leicester’s rescue once more to deny Toney, and the Bees went into the half-time break trailing by a goal.

Soon after the break, Maddison stung the palms of David Raya, and Toney was denied once more by Schmeichel, but Brentford found a deserved equaliser on the hour mark when Zanka headed home from Mathias Jensen’s corner.

After being teed up by Patson Daka, Maddison, who was the pantomime villain of the day, rolled the ball past Raya 15 minutes from time on the break to give Leicester the lead again.

Brentford were unable to create as many problems for Leicester as they did for Chelsea at the end of last week’s match, and Brendan Rodgers’ side came out on top.

Leicester moved up to ninth place in the table with 14 points after their win on the road. In order to keep climbing the table, they will need to do the same when they host Arsenal in their next fixture.

Meanwhile, the hosts dropped to 12th place after losing their second match in a row. They will travel to Burnley next to try to end their losing streak.
