November 22, (THEWILL) – Results of candidates that sat for the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates have been released.

The Head, Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Parick Areghan announced the release of the result at a news briefing in Lagos on Monday.

Giving a breakdown of the Results, Areghan said, one Million, Five Hundred and Seventy-Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Nine (1,573,849) candidates registered for the examination and 1,560,261 candidates sat the examination.

He announced that a total of 1,398, 370 (One Million ,Three Hundred and Ninety-Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy) candidates representing 89.62 (Eighty-nine point six two percent) of the total number of candidates that sat the examination passed with five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

He explained that the performance of candidates in this year’s examination was an improvement on that of last year.

Areghan also noted that the results of One Hundred and Seventy Thousand, One Hundred and Forty-Six candidates representing 10.9% (ten point nine percent) of the total number of candidates that sat the examination had been withheld for their involvement in various examination malpractices.

“The examination, which was an international one, took place simultaneously throughout the five-member countries of the Council – The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, using the same International Timetable.

“The examination spanned seven weeks, between August 16 and October 8, 2021. Throughout the period, we were faced with serious security challenges in the South East (IPOB and ESN sit-at-home order) and banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, etc, in the north and other parts of the country.

“All these, coupled with the continuous effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic, made the whole exercise a Herculean one”, he said.

The WAEC boss thanked the federal government and states government for supporting WAEC in the smooth conduct of its examination.
