BEVERLY HILLS, February 17, (THEWILL) – Armed men have attacked Government Science College Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

At least one student was feared killed and several others abducted.

Some teachers and their family members residing within the college staff quarters were also said to have been abducted by the gunmen.

A government source who pleaded anonymity disclosed this to a television station via telephone hookup earlier today.

According to the source, the attackers stormed Government Science College Kagara at about 2:00 a.m. today and started shooting sporadically.

In the process, a student was killed while some others sustained gunshot injuries.

The source could not, however, give the number of persons abducted and those injured as at the time of filing the report

The source further added that the gunmen were dressed in the same school uniform used by the students, disguised as school children.

Senator Shehu Sani, a former Senator and Kaduna-based activist, said he had spoken with the Principal of the school who confirmed the incident.

This latest attack is coming barely 24 hours after the District Head of Kusherki, in the same Rafi Local Government Area, Alhaji Masud Abubakar, was killed and his wife abducted when bandits invaded the community in their large numbers yesterday morning.

The same day, nine members of a vigilante team were killed after two hours of an intense gun battle with armed bandits in Munya Local Government Area of the state.

Also 23 people were abducted in the attack and foodstuffs with other valuables were looted by the bandits.

Niger State’s Governor Abubakar Bello condemned the abduction.

Government Science College, Kagara, is situated about 500 metres from the local government Secretariat along Kagara-Tegina road with all its perimeter fencing broken down.
