BREAKING: Soldiers Surround Venue Of Our Meeting With SGF – NLC Alerts Nigerians

June 03, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has alerted Nigerians to what it described as an attempt by the Federal Government to intimidate leaders of organised labour who are currently meeting with Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

The NLC, in a post on its X handle on Monday evening, said soldiers have surrounded the venue of the meeting between labour and government at the premises of the SGF.

Warning that the leaders are acting in accordance with directives of “our organs”, the union said any attempt to intimidate, provoke or blackmail “our leaders at the negotiation table” would further prolong the ongoing indefinite strike.

The post reads: “Soldiers are presently surrounding the venue of the meeting between Labour and Government at the premises of the SGF.

“Any attempt to intimidate, provoke or blackmail our leaders at the negotiation table would worsen the issue and further prolong our action indefinitely.

“Our Leaders are acting in accordance with directives of our organs. Viva! Organized Labour, Viva! Working People Of Nigeria!”

THEWILL earlier reported that following the compliance and participation by workers on the first day of the indefinite nationwide strike by organised labour, the Federal Government had invited leaders of the NLC and TUC to an emergency meeting at the office of the Secretary to the SGF.

The meeting, according to organised labour, was called to broker solutions to the issues that led to industrial action and eventually get the labour to end the strike.
