October 27, (THEWILL) – On April 6 of next year, Wembley will host the first-ever Women’s Finalissima, where England will take on their South American opponents, Brazil.

In a cooperative effort between UEFA and CONMEBOL, the Finalissima has been organised as a competition that puts the winners of the European and South American championships against one another.

The men’s match, which also took place at Wembley in June, saw Argentina defeat Italy 3-0, as THEWILL reported. Following their victory in the European Championships last summer, Sarina Wiegman’s team is now preparing for the women’s match with the goal of winning additional hardware.

The Lionesses’ victory against Germany in the Euro competition occurred one day after Brazil defeated Colombia 1-0 to win the Copa America Feminina for the fifth time in a row.

Following their respective continental triumphs, Brazil and England are now rated ninth and fourth, respectively, in the FIFA women’s world rankings. The most recent women’s international match between the two countries took place in October 2019 at the Riverside, with Brazil winning 2-1.
