December 17, (THEWILL) – Bayer Leverkusen claimed a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. A clinical first-half finish by Victor Boniface set Leverkusen on their way, before second half goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz sealed the emphatic win.
The home side started brightly and took the lead on 14 minutes, when Boniface latched onto a precise through ball from Wirtz to slot home. Leverkusen continued to dictate proceedings, and could have extended their advantage before the break.
As Frankfurt struggled to gain a foothold after half time, the game was put beyond doubt just five minutes into the second period. Frimpong ghosted in unmarked to smash home from close range. Wirtz then rubbed salt into Frankfurt wounds on 56 minutes, collecting a pass from Boniface before arrowing a shot into the bottom corner.
The visitors offered little in response as Leverkusen professionally saw out the match. The win sees Leverkusen extend their lead at the Bundesliga summit by seven points ahead of Bayern Munich’s match later on Sunday.
On the basis of this performance, Leverkusen will take some stopping as they chase the German top division title. Frankfurt must improve quickly if they are to avoid falling further behind the top sides.
