SAN FRANCISCO, February 24, (THEWILL) – A bomb blast has occurred at a busy bus park in Potiskum, the economic hub of Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria, killing at least 10 persons.
Reports from the town, where a girl suicide bomber targeted a phone market on Sunday killing at least 6, said several persons were injured during Tuesday’s attack believed to have been carried out by the Boko Haram, an Islamic terrorist group seeking to carve out an Islamic state in northern Nigeria.
Witnesses said a teenage girl blew herself up at the Tashan Dan Borno bus park as she attempted to board one of the buses in the crowded park.
There are conflicting reports over the exact number of people killed by the deadly blast, which has the hallmark of the Boko Haram, even though the group has not formally claimed responsibility for it.
The Boko Haram has stepped up the use of teenage girls in suicide attacks since the group abducted over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State, last year.
