SAN FRANCISCO, March 19, (THEWILL) – Indications emerged on Thursday that the rag-tag Boko Haram army recently sacked from Gamboru, Ngala and Foyi towns in Borno State by Chadian troops may have taken over the towns again.
Local sources told THEWILL that the towns near the Chadian border town were left unguarded by the Nigerian troops after the insurgents were driven away, a situation the rampaging gunmen took advantage of by returning to wreak more devastating havocs.
The insurgents were said to have stormed the three villages, Thursday, killing no fewer than 20 civilians near Cameroon border as many others from the area had to escape into Kusihri village in Cameroon.
Shooting sporadically as they stormed Gamboru Ngala town, the insurgents set many homes ablaze, killing the 20 people in the process.
Local youth vigilante members in the area confirmed hearing heavy gunshots as residents fled into Cameroon for safety.
“Many people fled into Cameroon and Chad territories but I can’t tell the casualty figure now please,” a youth vigilante member, who disclosed that he saw 15 corpses along the path, told THEWILL.
