SAN FRANCISCO, February 17, (THEWILL) – Boko Haram gunmen struck again on Sunday at Askira in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno state and set the palace of the Emir of the town ablaze.

The spokesman of the youth vigilante group in the area, Jubrin Gunda, confirmed this on Tuesday, saying the gunmen stormed the palace Sunday night, burning it down completely.

According to Gunda, after the destruction of the palace Sunday night, the gunmen returned to the town Monday morning and burnt down some other houses and killed many residents of the town.

“As at now I cannot tell you the number of people killed but all I can say is that the palace of the Emir was razed on Sunday by the insurgents at night; they equally returned to burn more houses in the town on Monday morning.

“At the moment, they are not in the town as they have fled back into the bushes and as such you cannot say the town was captured,” he said.
