SAN FRANCISCO, September 03, (THEWILL) – The Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, has been assured of support in his administration’s efforts to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency in the state.
The state chapter of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) gave the assurance on Tuesday, saying it would give all the needed assistance to restore normalcy to the state.
The governorship candidate of APGA in the state during the 2011 polls, Alhaji Garba Barma, gave the assurance when he led other members of the party on a courtesy visit to the governor in Maiduguri, the state capital.
He said the governor’s effort to transform the state, despite the security challenges, was highly commendable and should be supported by all well- meaning individuals and corporate bodies.
Barma, who is also the National Auditor of APGA, however hailed Shettima for his efforts to transform the state despite the security challenges he was made to inherit.
While calling on other political parties to emulate APGA by joining hands with the governor to salvage the state, Barma assured that APGA would always be there for Shettima.
Speaking earlier at the occasion, the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Ishaku Ado, said as progressives, APGA will always support policies and programmes that will bring positive change to the society.
Responding to the assurance of support for his administration, Shettima noted that the Boko Haram insurgency in the state was the result of failure of leadership by the past administrations.
Maintaining that peace is essential ingredient for the development of any society, he promised that his administration was ready to partner with any political party, group or individual to restore peace in the state.
APGA, according to the governor, is a symbol of national unity and stressing that Nigeria will continue to be united,Shettima noted that a Northerner was once a Mayor of Enugu while Alhaji Abubakar Imam was also elected a member of parliament in Tiv land.
Calling on contemporary politicians to emulate the past generation of politicians, the Borno governor lamented that some decades ago, Nigeria was more united than what obtains at present.
He maintained that no part of the country can do without the other as he urged those advocating for the country to split to think twice, saying Nigeria is one united nation with a common destiny.
