September 03, (THEWILL) – On Saturday, Joaquin appeared in La Liga for the 20th consecutive season, tying a Spanish league record.

The 41-year-old, who has played for Real Betis for 13 years and is the club captain, entered the match against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the 71st minute when his team was down 2-1.

It was Joaquin’s first appearance of the year, matching a La Liga record formerly held by Miquel Soler, whose senior career in Spain lasted 20 seasons as well.

Joaquin’s accomplishment is even more impressive given that he played outside of Spain for two seasons, spending time with Fiorentina from 2013 to 2015.

He had 14 touches and attempted 13 passes, but was unable to generate any opportunities or have a shot. As a result, Betis lost for the first time this season.
