Benue Commissioners’ Quarters A Death Trap – Imojime

November 17, (THEWILL) – The Benue State commissioners’ quarters have been described as a death trap and uninhabitable for human beings.

The State Commissioner for Works and Housing, Tiza Isaac Imojime, made the disclosure while playing host to members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Makurdi, on Friday.

He said, given the degree of dilapidation, the Ministry has started renovation work through direct labour in order to serve cost before Commissioners in the present administration will be allocated the quarters.

Imojime said he had inspected the 16 township roads contract the Alia administration awarded on the assumption of office, saying the contractor is delivering a good job and according to specification.

“To sustain the legacy the first civilian governor of Benue State, the late Aper Aku, left behind, the Government of Hyacinth Alia is renovating the State Civil Service Secretariat. All furniture and leaking roofs will be taken care of. Lodges are also being looked into.”

He stated that frantic efforts are being made towards ensuring that Benue, especially Makurdi, the State capital, looks serene ahead of the yuletide.

The Commissioner promised to throw his doors open for media scrutiny and projection of government efforts to be seen and heard by the outside world for appreciation.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Chapel, Emmanuel Antswen, said they were in the Commissioner’s office to seek partnership on a better way to report activities of the Ministry and the Alia administration in general.
