Bayern’s Kingsley Coman Undergoes Minor Heart Surgery To Ease Breathing Shortage

September 17, (THEWILL) – Kingsley Coman, Bayern Munich’s French winger, has undergone a minor heart surgery on Thursday after complaining of a shortage of breath during training according to the German side’s manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Coman is currently locked in contract talks with the German giant and has battled various injuries over the past few weeks, with a knock and a calf problem restricting him to just 38 minutes across Bayern’s opening four matches this season.

Although he had had no previous heart problems of note, he is now set for another spell on the sidelines. The manager confirmed in a recent press conference that Coman was actually diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat and went under the knife to help monitor the issue safely.

Nagelsmann said: “Kingsley Coman underwent surgery yesterday. His heartbeat rhythm had a slight disturbance with a minor added beat. At times he had a slight shortage of breath. That’s why we opted for long-term ECG monitoring and went ahead with this procedure.

“It’s not that unusual. Several people have it. He said every now and then that he wasn’t always breathing so perfectly. Then there were several tests, including a long-term ECG.

“The procedure involved a manageable risk. He is doing very well, he has minimal wound pain. Once the wound is healed then he will be able to start with rehab training and it won’t be more than ten days to two weeks before he’s back in full training.”

The successful operation means the 25-year-old is expected to make a full recovery and will continue to have his heart monitored to ensure there is no extra cause for concern before he returns to active and competitive football.

Bayern will miss his contributions on the flank but the team has made a lot of progress since the 1-1 draw with Gladbach on the opening weekend. The Bavarian giants have bagged an incredible 30 goals in their last six matches, 12 of which came in an absolute mauling of minnows Bremer in the DfB Pokal last month.

Leroy Sane will be the preferred replacement for Coman on the left wing as he has done impressively while Coman was recovering from his earlier knock. The competition will be stiffer on the right where Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Marcel Sabitzer are all competing for a slot.
