February 16, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have reportedly made an approach to German champions Bayern Munich over the potential signing of 19-year-old striker, Mathys Tel.
The English Premier League club is one of three English sides to have recently enquired about the availability of the talented French forward.
Tel only joined Bayern from Rennes in 2022 but has quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects, scoring six goals in his 27 appearances so far this season. His obvious potential has alerted United manager Erik ten Hag, who publicly expressed frustration at the club’s failure to recruit attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window.
Ironically, United held talks with Tottenham Hotspur last summer regarding a move for veteran striker Harry Kane prior to his eventual switch to Bayern. However, the latest report suggests Tel is currently focused on staying with the German giants and eventually becoming a legend there.
Bayern themselves intend to sign another experienced frontman this summer to provide competition and support for the 19-year-old. The news will come as a concern for United’s new owners INEOS, who are currently undertaking an overhaul of the club’s internal structures.
They are believed to have identified an established striker as a priority for the next transfer window, whilst also endorsing the long-standing interest in Crystal Palace’s exciting winger, Michael Olise.
