Bayern Munich Fall 2-1 To Eintracht Frankfurt

October 03, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich lost their first Bundesliga match at home since 2019, as Eintracht Frankfurt overcame the odds to win 2-1.

It is also the visitors’ first points at the Allianz Arena in 13 visits. At the outset it looked like it was going to be business as usual with Bayern exerting immense pressure on the Frankfurt goal.

The pressure finally told just before the half-hour mark when Leon Goretzka broke the deadlock. Martin Hinteregger attempted to play out from the back, but his pass was intercepted, and the ball ultimately found its way to Robert Lewandowski, who slipped the ball to Goretzka to find the bottom corner.

But Bayern’s lead was short-lived, as a rare Frankfurt attack resulted in a corner. Filip Kostic took it, finding Hinteregger, who slammed his header past Manuel Neuer.

Both teams had chances to grab the lead just before the interval, with Almamy Toure squandering a one-on-one with Neuer and Serge Gnabry hitting the post when he should have scored.

The second half proceeded in a similar vein, and Frankfurt sat deep to frustrate Bayern.

And, if it had not been for Kevin Trapp’s heroics, the hosts might have been in front, but the German goalkeeper made a series of incredible stops. The best of the bunch was a one-footed save from point-blank range to deny a Lewandowski header.

Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann continued to make a slew of attacking substitutions as the game progressed in the hopes of scoring a goal. But it was Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic who scored the second half’s only goal, a low effort that sneaked past Neuer to give the visitors a historic victory.

Despite the loss, Bayern Munich remain at the top of the league with 16 points, same as Bayer Leverkusen, and a point ahead of Borrussia Dortmund after seven games.
