BEVERLY HILLS, March 17, (THEWILL) – LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar basketballer has reacted to the shooting deaths of eight people, including six Asian women, at Atlanta-area massage parlours on Tuesday. He called the act “senseless and tragic.”
The self-styled “King” James made his reaction via a message of condolence he posted on the social media platform Twitter after the Lakers’ game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night.
In the message LeBron said: My condolences goes out to the families of all the victims and the entire Asian community tonight on what transpired in Atlanta at the Aromatherapy Spa. Coward a** young man!! Just senseless and tragic!!”
According to the reporting on the fatal shooting incident, a certain Robert Aaron Long, the 21-year-old primary suspect in the shootings, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with the execution-style killings across three spa locations.
Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) have arrived in Atlanta to assist in the wide scale investigations. As of Wednesday morning, local officials were still withholding the names of those killed as part of the investigation looking into the motive behind the shootings.
Brian Kemp, the Governor of the state of Georgia, commiserated with victims via his official Twitter account: “Our entire family is praying for the victims of these horrific acts of violence.”
There has been a growing increase in reported cases of racism across the United States. Stop AAPI Hate, an organization that tracks reported hateful instances of violence, abuse or discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States, found there were almost 3,800 reports of anti-Asian racism in 2020.
It is a near 1,000 increase from 2019. If retroactive reports are included, the number jumps to just over 3,200. Starkly, 68 percent of the reports came from women.
