June 25, (THEWILL) – Gunmen suspected to be bandits, on Tuesday, attacked a Mosque in Tazame village, Bungudu local government Area of Zamfara state.
Two worshipers observing morning prayers were killed, while 17 were reportedly abducted.
A resident in the area, who pleaded anonymity, told newsmen on Wednesday that the bandits surrounded the worshipers at around 5:00 am on Tuesday.
The source said two persons were killed, while the Imam of the mosque sustained a gunshot on his leg during the incident.
“As I am talking to you now, 17 of our people have been kidnapped by the bandits while observing morning prayers, while two were killed and our Chief Imam sustained gunshots on his leg. We are calling on the federal and Zamfara state governments to deploy more security to restore peace in the area”, the source told newsmen
The spokesperson of State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
“The incident happened this (Tuesday) morning, two persons were killed and some were kidnapped. We are yet to confirm the numbers of the people kidnapped but the Command has deployed personnel to the area to restore normalcy. Efforts are in place to rescue the kidnapped victims”, Abubakar said.
Tazame village is located along the Gusau-Funtua road about 22 kilometres from Gusau, the Zamfara state capital, under Kwatarkwashi Emirate of Bungudu local government council.
