December 07, (THEWILL) – Wife of the Cross River State governor, Dr. Linda Ayade has flagged off the second round of the OutBreak Response Vaccination in the state.
The exercise is one of the high impact activities in the health sector of the state.
As part of the exercise, about 900,000 children are projected to be vaccinated against the polio disease by the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
The governor’s wife said, “We are targeting about nine hundred thousand children who are to be vaccinated in the state.
“We are told that Cross River and Benue States have shown signs of having the virus.
“Who knows where all of us could have been without vaccination.” Ayade’s wife maintained.
Dr Janet Ekpenyong, the director general, Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency urged parents residing in the state to make their children available for vaccination to avoid being paralysed.
She advised parents to report to the nearest health centre to discover signs of paralysis in their children.
“We are asking all parents to notify us of any child 15 years and below with signs of paralysis.
“We are committed in our campaign to have a healthy population in time to come”, she said.
Dr Ekpenyong added that they have gone as far as fraternising with the militants to enable us administer Polio vaccines to children in the riverine communities.
This she said shows the determination of the government to ensure the success of the exercise.
Chairman, Cross River State women medical doctors, Vivian Mesembe Otu, in her remarks said 50 percent of children in Cross River State have been vaccinated.
