Aviation Workers Want Adequate Budget For Training

August 25, (THEWILL) – The Joint Aviation Trade Unions Forum (JATUF) has called on the Federal Government to evolve adequate budgetary provisions for improved capacity building to ensure the smooth operation of the sector considering its role in the nation’s rapid development

Rising from a two-day retreat at Rento Hotels, Owerri, recently, JATUF in a 14-point resolution identified the need for succession planning in the aviation industry through adequate capacity building career mentorship and motivational incentives.

In the resolution signed by Comrades Illitrus Ahmadu and Hector Nnadi, Chairman and Secretary respectively, JATUF urged the management of aviation agencies to consider and respect the opinions, views and positions of trade unions before arriving at critical decisions affecting workers.

It further stressed the need to adopt strong human resource management policies aimed at ensuring harmonisation and enhancing workers career and welfare.

The unions, in order to ensure mutual trust among them, called for cooperation, reliability, confidence and understanding, stressing that they should form a strong alliance by strengthening JATUF to secure workers interest through a jointly agreed collective bargaining.

It added that when necessary, the government might set up interventionist mechanisms to mitigate the escalation of trade disputes and conflicts, stressing the need for the government to adopt a professional outlook by recognising the rights of workers and the unions as partners in progress.
