November 21, (THEWILL) – Atletico Madrid beat Osasuna 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Felipe at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.
Atlético struggled to create chances in the first half, as Osasuna demonstrated why they are one of the best away teams in the Spanish top flight. They seemed more than comfortable sitting back with a bank of six players, soaking up pressure and picking their opportunities to attack.
Lucas Torro forced Jan Oblak into the best save of the first half when he shot at goal from 35 yards out. His powerful curling effort would have been a goal if it had not been for the keeper’s strong wrists and swift reflexes.
Aletico came out more determined in the second half and pressed the visitors back, but they lacked the cutting edge to break the deadlock. This forced Simone to make a number of changes, including bringing on Luis Suárez in an attempt to score a crucial goal.
As the game progressed, both teams remained hard at work, cancelling each other out until Felipe scored at the very end to claim all three points for the hosts.
Atletico’s next match is in the Champions League against Milan, followed by a league trip to Cádiz while struggling Elche visits Osasuna next weekend.
