BEVERLY HILLS, July 07, (THEWILL) – The Governor Aminu Tambuwal Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) met on Tuesday evening with Speaker Dogara Yakubu and some members of the House of Representatives who insisted on fairness and equity in choosing principal officers of the House.
THEWILL gathered that the group conceded that the Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila faction may nominate a candidate for the position of House Leader as long as the nominee is not from the south west and north east geo-political zones which already produced the deputy speaker and speaker respectively. Their position effectively rules out Gbajabiamila (Lagos State) who was nominated by the party as House Leader.
The Dogara group however insisted that if its position would not be accepted by the party, the House of Representatives should be allowed to produce its principal officers in accordance with House rules and precedents.
According to them, this was the only way peace could reign in the House especially since there was already a court case instituted by the North Central and South East caucuses in the House.
A reliable source who confirmed the outcome of the meeting to THEWILL said members at the meeting were miffed that relevant organs of the APC such as the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) were not consulted by the party secretariat before communicating what was said to be the position of the Party on the National Assembly leadership crisis.
The source added that they despite this lapse on the Chairman’s part, the members still expressed confidence in the leadership of Chief John Oyegun.
