SAN FRANCISCO, June 15, (THEWILL) – Coming barely 24 hours after Boko Haram gunmen attacked Babbangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, setting houses in the town ablaze, a local vigilante commander and 10 other persons, were killed, Monday morning , as eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries as two suicide bombers rocked Potiskum, a commercial town in the State.
A local witness, Abubakar Isa, told THEWILL that the terrorists struck first at the local vigilante office near the Potiskum Prison in the Dorowa area of the town as a suicide bomber, who came with a computer device, detonated the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on him immediately he entered the office, killing seven people at once, including the vigilante commander.
Giving an account of the incident, Isa said: ”A young man came to our office and we insisted that anybody that would enter must be searched and when he pretended to be opening his bag, he detonated an explosive device.
“When everyone was still shell shocked about the attack, another explosion happened five minutes later at a drinking joint in the same vicinity.”
Isa said three persons, including the bomber, were killed in the second explosion as the bomber pretended to be requesting for a drink before detonating the IED on him.
Confirming the attacks, a female medical staff at the General Hospital, Potiskum, who craved anonymity, said 11 corpses were deposited at the morgue of the hospital, adding that eight persons were brought in for treatment at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit .
