At Least 15 Killed In Lekki Toll Plaza Shooting – Eyewitness, DJ Switch; Still, No Person, Family Has Declared Anyone Missing Three Days After Incident

BEVERLY HILLS, October 23, (THEWILL) – Popular Nigerian Disc Jockey, DJ Switch, whose real name is Obianuju Catherine Udeh, has stated that at least 15 people died at the Lekki toll plaza shooting stressing that the government shouldn’t tell a lie about the number of deaths because it wants to save face.

DJ Switch, who streamed the incident live via Instagram, spoke for the first time via a video post on her Instagram Friday.

The army said its soldiers were not at the scene despite overwhelming video evidence that placed officers at the toll plaza, firing sporadic rounds into the air as they advanced towards the unarmed #EndSARS protesters. Several persons sustained gunshot wounds amid the chaos that night that sparked global outrage. There are however uncertainties about fatalities following claims and counter claims.

THEWILL recalls that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state had initially said there were no casualties but later stated that two persons died, one from a head trauma and the other from injuries sustained from a gunshot. He said it remained unclear if the deaths were linked to the Lekki shooting. He had also previously put the number of wounded at 30 after making rounds to least three hospitals on the island.

However, in an emotional ladened video, the female singer, DJ and rapper, who was the only celebrity at the night of the shooting, said the body count was at least 15 but that they made the mistake of giving the bodies to the soldiers when they confronted them asking: “why are you people killing us?” She said the soldiers put the dead bodies in their trucks and left the scene afterwards. She did not provide any video recordings or photos of the dead to support her claim.

Her account of the incident has left journalists scrambling to fill in the timeline of events that horrific Tuesday night. THEWILL has reached out to her through intermediaries for a press interview but is yet to receive a response.

The brave DJ, who has received accolades for her efforts and leadership that night in the midst of the chaos, said she didn’t realize she was injured until she got to where she is presently staying for her safety, saying her life may be in danger.

She further disclosed that both soldiers and policemen took part in the crackdown of the unarmed protesters seeking an end to police brutality and extra-judicial actions.

In the video she showed bullet shells she said her group collected from the scene of the shooting as evidence just as the soldiers tried to mop them up.

THEWILL reports that three days after the incident, no person or family has come forward to declare anyone missing or dead that they know of despite open appeals for information following controversies surrounding the number of fatalities.
