February 08, – Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has won the ‘Best African Music Act’, at the 2024 MOBO Awards.
MOBO Awards is an annual British presentation, honouring achievements in music of black origin.
The 26th edition was held on Wednesday, at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena in the United Kingdom.
The event was hosted by television personality, Indiyah Polack and Babatunde Aléshé, the stand-up comedian.
Asake defeated South Africa’s Tyla and music heavyweights like Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy and David Adeleke, aka Davido, to clinch the ‘Best African Music Act’ category.
Other nominees in the category included Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, Adekunle Kosoko, aka Adekunle Gold and Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, aka Ayra Starr.
The win for Asake comes a few days after he lost the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category at this year’s Grammy Awards to Tyla.
P2J, another Nigerian nominated in the ‘Best Producer’ category, lost to Inflo, the British songwriter.
