August 20, (THEWILL) —The player in question is Viktor Gyokeres, who only joined Arsenal last summer after completing a £55 million move from Sporting CP.
The Sweden international was brought to North London to solve Arsenal’s long-standing search for a prolific central striker and enjoyed a productive first season, scoring 21 goals.
However, his position in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI has become less certain, and reports from Spain now suggest the striker could be interested in a move to Barcelona.
Gyokeres Reportedly Wants Barcelona Move
According to Spanish journalist Victor Navarro, Gyokeres has been making himself available to Barcelona as the La Liga champions search for another attacking option.
Navarro claimed that the Arsenal striker is “offering himself” to Barcelona, indicating that he could be open to leaving the Emirates despite only spending one season with the Premier League champions.
The development comes at a particularly interesting time, with Arsenal preparing for their opening league fixture against newly promoted Coventry City.
Gyokeres’ future could therefore become one of the transfer stories to watch during the final stages of the window.
Barcelona’s interest is understandable given their situation in attack.
Robert Lewandowski has departed the club on a free transfer, while Ferran Torres has also moved on after joining Paris Saint-Germain.
That leaves Barcelona looking for another established No. 9 capable of leading the line.
Julian Alvarez had reportedly been among their preferred targets, but Atletico Madrid have remained firm over the Argentina international’s future.
Barcelona have also been linked with Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez, Sporting striker Luis Suarez and Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi.
Gyokeres could represent another option if Barcelona decide to move away from their more complicated targets.

For Arsenal, the possibility of losing Gyokeres comes after another busy summer in the transfer market.
The Gunners have strengthened their squad following their first Premier League title since 2004, bringing in Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis while also making Piero Hincapie’s move from Bayer Leverkusen permanent.
They have also strengthened their defence with the reported £50 million arrival of Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.
The club’s spending means departures could be necessary before the transfer window closes, with several players already linked with moves elsewhere.
However, selling Gyokeres would be a particularly significant decision given the investment Arsenal made to bring him to London only a year ago.
Another factor behind the speculation is the competition for the striker position.
Although Gyokeres finished his first Arsenal campaign with 21 goals, Kai Havertz remained an important part of Arteta’s plans and was preferred for some of the biggest matches towards the end of last season.
Havertz also started Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City, raising questions about whether Gyokeres is guaranteed a starting role when the Premier League campaign begins.
For a striker who was signed to become Arsenal’s main attacking outlet, regular starts will clearly be important.
