July 24, (THEWILL) – Arsenal beat English Premier League rivals, Chelsea, 4-0 in Orlando, Florida, to record their most impressive preseason performance to date and make it five straight victories in an excellent set of matches.
The Gunners have now scored 19 goals in preseason, with £45 million summer acquisition Gabriel Jesus scoring in only 15 minutes of kickoff. Another first-half goal from Martin Odegaard made it 2-0 Arsenal, while late goals from Bukayo Saka and Albert Sambi Lokonga completed the rout.
When Jesus had the acumen to dink the ball over Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and into the far corner to give his club the lead, he embodied coolness personified.
Thomas Tuchel’s team made one error too many that led to the goals by, and by the time Sambi Lokonga headed in the fourth goal, the blue team was staring at one other in shock. The unmarked Arsenal midfielder snuck into the penalty area at the far post and skillfully steered Cedric Soares’ deep ball back across the goal and into the corner.
Kalidou Koulibaly made his debut appearance for Chelsea off the bench under trying circumstances, while Oleksandr Zinchenko got his own debut underway for Arsenal.
