May 4, (THEWILL)- A 14-year-old boy tragically killed in a sword attack while walking to school was honoured by Arsenal Football Club on Saturday. Daniel Anjorin, an ardent Arsenal supporter, died on Tuesday, after being attacked in Hainault, East London. As the Gunners faced Bournemouth at the Emirates, tributes poured in for the beloved teenager.
During the match, Arsenal displayed Daniel’s picture on the big screens. In a poignant moment, fans applauded throughout the 14th minute as a massive “RIP Daniel” banner was held aloft. The club’s actions paid respect to the young life lost in an act of senseless violence.
Daniel’s devastated family described him as “a wonderful child” who was “well loved” and “hard working”. They stated his death “leaves a gaping wound in the family,” underlining the profound grief they face.
Staff and pupils at Bancroft’s, the independent school Daniel attended, expressed being in “profound shock and sorrow”. A statement called him “a true scholar” with “a positive nature and gentle character” whose impact would be lasting. Clearly, the young Anjorin touched many lives in his brief time on earth.
Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo has been charged with murdering the 14-year-old Arsenal fan. As tributes continue, the tragedy has shaken the local community and football world.
