Arsenal Ease Past Brentford To Reach Carabao Cup Fourth Round

September 28, (THEWILL) – Arsenal comfortably progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 victory away at Brentford on Wednesday night. Despite manager Mikel Arteta making several alterations from Sunday’s North London derby, the Gunners remained composed and denied the Bees throughout.

The winning goal came in the eighth minute when Eddie Nketiah pounced on an underhit backpass from Zanka. The striker unselfishly squared for Reiss Nelson to slot home from 12 yards. Brentford had chances to equalise, with Christian Nørgaard teeing up Yoane Wissa, but the striker dragged wide. Arsenal also went close through Emile Smith Rowe before the break.

After the interval, the hosts increased the pressure. Wissa struck the post from distance with Aaron Ramsdale getting a touch. The Gunners keeper later denied Frank Onyeka’s half-volley. Brentford thought they had levelled when Zanka finished late on but he was flagged offside.

In the dying minutes, Ramsdale brilliantly kept out substitute Saman Ghoddos’ effort after a well-worked throw-in routine. The Bees were unable to find a way through in the closing stages as Arsenal held on to secure a fourth round spot.

The result means Thomas Frank’s side have now lost three successive games in all competitions. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s youthful team advanced in the cup competition with a professional performance.
