October 07, (THEWILL) – With a comfortable 3-0 victory over Norwegian rivals Bodo/Glimt, Arsenal made sure the Emirates fans had a good day at their first home European game of the year.
The first half, during which the majority of the damage was done, was completely dominated by Mikel Arteta’s drastically altered squad. With a wide swathe of his starting XI resting for the very crucial English Premier League tie against Liverpool, Arteta drew from his reserve bench.
The players he selected, while resting eight players that won the north London derby, gave a good account of themselves as Matt Turner kept a clean sheet, Fabio Vieira controlled play in the middle of the field, while Eddie Nketiah and Rob Holding delivered the goals.
Gabriel Jesus made an unnecessary appearance, which was instrumental to the final goal because the Brazilian carved the visitors open via a spectacular run before squaring to Vieira, who scored, as a reward for his superb performance throughout to confirm their victory.
The Gunners finished in first place in their group with two victories they have so far in the Europa. While they will gear up on Sunday, to welcome Liverpool to the Emirates in a testy encounter, Bodo/Glimt will also host Sandefjord in the Norwegian Eliteserien.
