November 06, (THEWILL) – Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League with a derby victory at Chelsea with Gabriel Magalhaes netting the game-winning goal three minutes after the hour mark.
Taking advantage of a spell of possession in the second half, Gabriel capitalised on some awful Blues defending from a Bukayo Saka corner to give Mikel Arteta’s team all three points and put the Gunners two points ahead of Manchester City.
Arsenal earned their third straight-away victory in the Premier League over their London rivals, as the first team to do so in the top flight, while ex-Gunner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a terrible debut against his former team.
Since losing 4-2 to Arsenal in April, Chelsea has now lost two straight games to Arteta’s team in the English Premier League and this was their first defeat at Stamford Bridge since that last loss.
The case for Arsenal being legitimate title contenders has been strengthened once more. They have just one more league game left, against Wolverhampton Wanderers, until the World Cup, so there is a considerable probability they will maintain their league-leading position into Christmas.
