January 31, (THEWILL) – Arsenal and Chelsea have reached an agreement over the transfer of Jorginho, with the north London club paying £12 million ($14.8m) for the 31-year-old midfielder.

The Italian international is set to arrive at Arsenal’s training ground today for a medical and is expected to sign a contract until 2024, with the option of a further year.

The transfer of Jorginho is a crucial move for Arsenal as they look to strengthen their midfield. With the absence of Mohamed Elneny due to injury, the English Premier League leaders are in dire need of cover for Thomas Partey, their first-choice holding midfielder. The deal for Jorginho was driven by manager, Mikel Arteta, and the experienced Italian will be a valuable addition to the team as they push for the title this season.

Jorginho has a wealth of experience, having won the UEFA Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea, as well as the European Championship with Italy in 2020. The transfer also comes at a crucial time for Chelsea, who are looking to push through a move for Benfica midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, before tomorrow’s deadline, which would see Jorginho fall down the pecking order in west London.

With his contract at Stamford Bridge set to expire in the summer, the transfer is a win-win situation for both clubs as they look to bolster their teams for the remainder of the season.
