July 04, (THEWILL) – Southampton’s Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, has rejoined training as the club prepares for its pre-season games in the second-tier of English football.
However, there are growing concerns over the future of fellow Nigerian international and Onuachu’s teammate, Joe Aribo. The midfielder was reportedly absent from the training session amidst speculation surrounding his potential departure from the St Mary’s-based club.
THEWILL recalls that both players joined Southampton last season but struggled to make an impact in the English Premier League. Aribo, who began the brighter of the duo, managed just two goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, while Onuachu, who had limited appearances and an item from the bench after joining the club in January, failed to find the back of the net in his 11 outings.
Rumors have been circulating that Aribo is set to join Turkish powerhouse Besiktas after just one season with the Saints. The 26-year-old midfielder, who was brilliant at Glasgow Rangers before moving to the EPL, has struggled to settle and showcase his best form under three different managers. His absence from the team’s first training session following the break has only fueled speculation regarding his future.
In contrast, Onuachu was present at the training session, suggesting that he may be given another opportunity to prove himself at St Mary’s.
