November 16, (THEWILL) – Manchester United’s teenage winger, Alejandro Garnacho, has been left out of the latest Argentina squad, national team coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed on Thursday. Scaloni cited concerns over the 19-year-old’s recent club form as the reason for his omission.
Garnacho earned his first senior call-up aged just 17 in March 2022, before he had even made his United debut. After breaking through last season, he featured in June friendlies against Australia and Indonesia. The youngster was also called up in September and October for 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but played only 5 minutes across 4 games.
Scaloni admitted it would have been easy to include Garnacho again this month. However, with his limited game time for Argentina recently, Scaloni felt it better he remain with United. The coach stressed looking after players’ well-being as well as footballing reasons were behind his choice.
While Garnacho has made 16 United appearances this season, only five have been starts. He is still awaiting his first senior goal or assist for the club. Scaloni confirmed Garnacho remains firmly in Argentina’s thoughts for the future.
Garnacho will now focus on forcing his way into the United starting XI during the English Premier League run-in. Argentina face Uruguay and Brazil in November.
