Ogunwuyi gives no reason for resignation, praises administration’s achievements
October 12, (THEWILL) – Speculation over a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified following the resignation of Segun Ogunwuyi as Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Ogunwuyi resigned on Monday, October 12, 2026, with immediate effect, becoming the latest political appointee to leave the Makinde administration in recent weeks as political manoeuvring gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although Ogunwuyi did not disclose the reason for his resignation or indicate his next political move, sources familiar with developments within the governor’s camp said the exit followed internal disagreements and had heightened speculation that the former Chief of Staff could be considering a move to the APC.
There is, however, no official confirmation that Ogunwuyi has decided to defect to the ruling party, and THEWILL could not independently establish that he had opened formal discussions with the APC.
“There have been internal disagreements within the political camp, and Ogunwuyi’s resignation has further fuelled speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
“There are suggestions that he could be considering joining the APC, but we cannot say that definitively at this stage,” a source familiar with the developments said.
In his resignation letter dated October 12, Ogunwuyi informed Makinde that his decision took immediate effect.
“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.
Ogunwuyi expressed gratitude to Makinde for giving him the opportunity to serve, describing his years in government as fulfilling.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” he said.
The former Chief of Staff said he remained proud of the administration’s record and its efforts to advance the development and prosperity of the state.

A former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ogunwuyi also served in the House of Representatives, representing Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal Constituency.
He became a key figure in Makinde’s administration after the governor assumed office in 2019, serving first as Executive Assistant on Investment before heading the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency. He was subsequently appointed Chief of Staff in 2021.
The position placed him at the heart of the Governor’s Office and made him one of Makinde’s influential political and administrative aides.
