Another PDP Senator Decamps To APC

SAN FRANCISCO, January 18, (THEWILL) – The Senator representing Akwa Ibom South, Nelson Effiong, on Thursday cross-carpeted from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

‎He announced his decision to dump the PDP on the floor of the upper legislative chamber, citing the crisis in his erstwhile party as reason for the action.

“Over the past one year this party has disintegrated; because of the crisis in the party, I have decided to resign from the PDP and join the APC,” Effiong said.

In his reaction, the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio argued that Effiong should automatically lose his seat since he became a senator through the PDP platform.

The former Akwa Ibom governor disclosed that the PDP would institute a legal action to ascertain what should become of the defecting lawmaker’s seat in the Senate.

Last November, the Senator for Ondo south‎, Omoyele Omogunwa, had defected from the PDP to the APC, citing the need to support the governor-elect of his state, Rotimi Akeredolu, as the reason for his action.
