Ankle Setback Sidelines Murray From Monte Carlo, Munich Tournaments

March 29, (THEWILL) – British tennis star, Andy Murray, faces another hurdle in his comeback trail as he recovers from a severe ankle injury sustained during his Miami Open exit last month. The 36-year-old’s team confirmed on Friday, that Murray will miss the prestigious Monte Carlo Masters and BMW Open in Munich next month.

The three-time Grand Slam champion rolled his ankle in the deciding set of his third-round defeat against Tomas Machac in Miami, last Sunday. Initial assessments revealed ruptured ligaments, sidelining Murray for an extended period. His team stated that while the exact recovery timeline remains unclear, Murray is reviewing options with medical experts.

Despite the setback, Murray has reiterated his desire to return to court as soon as possible. The former world number one had previously expressed hopes of competing at the French Open starting on May 26 and potentially his final Olympics in Paris later this year. His Wimbledon aspirations, where he triumphed in 2013 and 2016, could also be in jeopardy.

The Monte Carlo Masters, held from April 7-14 and the Munich Open from April 15-21, will be the first two tournaments Murray misses due to this latest injury setback.
