September 05, (THEWILL) – Angola stunned Ghana with a late goal to win 1-0 in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday.
The Black Stars controlled much of the match but failed to capitalise on their chances. Antoine Semenyo had an early opportunity, sending a shot wide after five minutes. Mohammed Kudus came close to scoring in the 36th minute, but his powerful strike was saved by Angola goalkeeper, Neblu.
Ghana continued to press in the second half, with Neblu denying Semenyo again in the 58th minute. Jordan Ayew also saw a shot blocked by a defender with 13 minutes remaining. Kudus had another attempt deflected behind for a corner in the 85th minute.
Despite Ghana’s dominance, Angola snatched an unlikely victory in the third minute of stoppage time. Substitute Milson scored the winning goal, silencing the home crowd and giving the Black Sable Antelopes all three points in the Group F fixture.
The result marked a disappointing start for Ghana’s coach Otto Addo, who had hoped to begin his time with the team in the qualifiers with a positive result in front of the Kumasi fans. Angola, meanwhile, will be thrilled with their smash-and-grab victory away from home.
