Ancelotti To Become First Foreign Coach In 60 Years To Lead Brazil’s National Team

July 05, (THEWILL) – After a gap of nearly 60 years, Brazil’s national football team is set to have a foreign coach at the helm in Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian coach of Real Madrid is poised to become the first non-Brazilian to lead the team since 1965. The announcement was made by the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodriguez, who revealed that Ancelotti will assume the role in time for the Copa America in June 2024. Having a season remaining on his contract with Real Madrid, Ancelotti is determined to honour that commitment before taking charge of the Brazilian squad.
The decision to appoint Ancelotti followed extensive negotiations between the CBF and Rodriguez, who had the Italian coach at the top of his list. The allure of coaching one of the most successful national teams in football history prompted Ancelotti to reconsider his previous statement that the Real Madrid job would be his last. The Brazilian hierarchy was attracted not only to Ancelotti’s remarkable trophy record but also to his laid-back personality and his ability to foster close relationships with players.
Rodriguez praised Ancelotti as a decent person and pointed to the manager’s appreciation for Brazilian football. Ancelotti’s appointment will see him reunite with familiar faces from his time at Real Madrid. Players such as Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Eder Militao, who have played crucial roles under Ancelotti’s guidance at Real, are an integral part of the Brazilian squad. Vinicius, who has developed a close bond with the coach, described Ancelotti as the best coach in the world.
With his extensive experience and success, including winning the UEFA Champions League with both AC Milan and Real Madrid, domestic league titles in multiple countries, and coaching stints at renowned clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, Ancelotti brings a wealth of expertise that will be necessary to guide Brazil towards their pursuit of a sixth World Cup title.
