Anambra Governorship: PDP’s Nwoye Vows To Reject Poll Result

… Accuses INEC, Army, Police of Aiding Manipulation

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, November 17, (THEWILL) – The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State, Comrade Tony Nwoye, has vowed not to accept the result of the election, saying the final outcome of the election will never be acceptable to him and his party.

His rejection is coming on the heels of a similar action by Senator Chris Ngige of the All Progressives Congress (APC). But Nwoye hinged his eventual recourse to the tribunal on the decision of the PDP national headquarters.

A distraught Nwoye also accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the and security agencies, particularly the Army and Police, of aiding the wholesome manipulation of the polls in favour of the candidate of the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Willie Obiano.

Nwoye spoke to newsmen in Awka on Sunday ahead of the release of the result , which is held down by the rescheduled election in Obosi ward of Idemili North.

According to him, “The election is a monumental fraud and embarrassment to democracy. I have never seen an election where soldiers and policemen were harassing and intimidating voters; assisting APGA agents and INEC to chase away PDP supporters both at the voting collation centres, and, also to write results. Our supporters were wounded at various wards across the state.

“They perfected the rigging so much so that they removed names of many voters from the voter register.

“ Iyom Josephine Anenih also did not vote, because her name was missing in the voter register in her ward. I didn’t vote and my father also didn’t vote because our names and names of many other voters were missing in my ward, which has more than 500 registered voters.”

Nwoye further stated that he and his party boycotted Sunday’s repeat election in about 65 polling unit in Obosi Ward 1 in Idemili- North Local Government Area.

However, Nwoye said as a loyal party member, he would rather wait for the decision of the national secretariat of his party, before deciding on whether or not to challenge the outcome of the governorship election at the election tribunal.
