August 18, (THEWILL) – Oluwatobiloba Amusan, the current world champion and world record holder in the 100m hurdles, has been cleared to compete at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria recently confirmed that Amusan will be allowed to participate after charges against her for three whereabouts failures were dismissed by a disciplinary tribunal. She had been facing allegations of missing three out-of-competition drug tests within a 12-month span. If found guilty, she could have received a ban that would have prevented her from defending her title.
However, it was determined that testers had not made adequate efforts to locate Amusan on two occasions when she was not present for testing. With the charges absolved, Amusan is now set to race in Budapest beginning this Saturday. The 26-year-old will aim to retain the gold medal she earned in dramatic fashion at the 2022 World Championships.
Throughout the process, Amusan maintained that she is a clean athlete and that the issue would be resolved favourably. Her clearance to compete comes just in time for the Nigerian hurdler. She will look to cement her dominance in the 100m hurdles, as she remains undefeated in 2022. Amusan is expected to be a star in Budapest as she chases more World Championship glory.
The World Athletics Championships will provide Amusan with a prime opportunity to showcase her prowess and defend a title she has yet to retain. With the missed test charges now behind her, she can focus solely on her preparation and performance on the track.
