January 05, (THEWILL) – After being legally enrolled in the Camp Nou squad, Dani Alves is set to make his second Barcelona debut in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey match against Linares.
The return of the 38-year-old Alves to the Catalan club was confirmed in November, but he had to wait until the next registration period in January to play, and there were even questions about whether Barcelona had the necessary pay space. Plus, he also tested positive for COVID-19 lately.
On Wednesday, Barca shared the cheering news on Twitter: “FC Barcelona have received confirmation of the registration of @DaniAlvesD2. The player is available for #LinaresBarça.”
Incidentally, club manager Xavi and director Mateu Alemany both indicated that Ferran Torres, who also tested positive for COVID-19, will not be able to register until Barcelona sells some players to free up salary cap space.
Fortunately, Alves has had no such obstacles to his inclusion as his registration has finally been completed in time for Barcelona to name him in their squad for Wednesday’s match.
Alves has a high chance of starting the game because Sergino Dest is out with COVID-19, and Sergi Roberto is still nursing a hamstring injury. It is a tight squad selection problem that has forced Xavi to play centre-backs on the right for the past several weeks.
